Venezia Midfielder Gianluca Busio Sidelined With Injury in Fiorentina Clash

September 11, 2026 - 17:42

Venezia midfielder Gianluca Busio was forced off the pitch with an injury just before halftime during his team's Serie A match against Fiorentina on Friday, Sept. 11. The setback comes at an awkward moment for the United States men's national team, which has been monitoring the young midfielder's progress closely.

Busio, who has become a regular fixture in Venezia's midfield since joining the club, appeared to pull up with discomfort shortly before the break. Team medical staff attended to him on the field, and he was unable to continue, heading straight down the tunnel for further evaluation. The exact nature and severity of the injury were not immediately clear after the match.

The timing is troubling for the USMNT, which has relied on Busio as part of its emerging core of Europe-based players. Any extended absence could affect his club form and his availability for upcoming international fixtures. Venezia will await test results before determining how long the 19-year-old might be out.

Busio's development in Italy has been a bright spot for American soccer, and his absence would leave a gap in Venezia's midfield as the club navigates a demanding Serie A schedule. Further updates are expected in the coming days.
