Former Wrexham midfielder Waynne Phillips has conceded that while the club has enjoyed a strong Championship campaign, failing to secure a play-off place would ultimately feel like a letdown. Wrexham currently sit sixth in the table and face a crucial home match against fourth-placed Middlesbrough on Saturday.
A win for Wrexham would guarantee them a spot in the play-offs, but only if Hull City do not win by a larger margin. Anything less than a victory could leave the door open for Derby County to snatch the final place in the top six.
Phillips acknowledged the progress the team has made this season, but he did not shy away from the high expectations now surrounding the club. "It has been a successful season, no doubt about that," he said. "But when you get this close, you want to finish the job. Missing out now would be a disappointment."
The match against Middlesbrough is set to be a tense affair, with both sides aware of what is at stake. Wrexham will rely on their home support to push them over the line, knowing that one strong performance could define their entire season.
