Rangers Might Land Significant Package from Cubs in deGrom Trade Scenario

The Texas Rangers may have a rare opportunity to turn Jacob deGrom's recent stretch of health into a franchise-altering trade. According to speculation around the league, the Chicago Cubs have emerged as a potential destination for the veteran ace, and the return could be substantial.

DeGrom, who has battled injuries throughout his tenure in Texas, has shown renewed durability of late. That development has shifted his trade value considerably. For a Cubs team hungry to add top-of-the-rotation talent, the two-time Cy Young winner represents a high-upside target despite his injury history.

In exchange, the Rangers could command a package featuring multiple highly regarded prospects, potentially including upper-level arms and position players close to major league readiness. Such a haul would accelerate a rebuild or retooling effort in Texas while freeing payroll for other moves.

The logic cuts both ways. Chicago gets an elite pitcher for a playoff push, while Texas converts a risky asset into controllable young talent. Executives around the sport reportedly view this as the kind of swing that could reshape both clubs.

Nothing is imminent, and any deal would hinge on medical evaluations and deGrom's continued health. Still, the framework exists, and the Rangers appear positioned to benefit if talks gain traction.
