NYSBA To Host Free Program on Mobile Sports Betting and Problem Gambling - New York State Bar Association

The New York State Bar Association will present a free webinar focused on the rise of mobile sports betting and the growing concerns around problem gambling. Scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17, from noon to 1 p.m., the session is open to the public at no cost.

Titled "The New Gambling Landscape: Mobile Sports Betting and Prediction Markets," the program aims to educate attendees on how these rapidly expanding betting platforms work, what legal and regulatory issues they raise, and how to recognize the warning signs of addiction. With sports betting now available at the tap of a phone screen, experts say the risk of compulsive behavior has increased, especially among younger users.

The webinar will bring together attorneys, mental health professionals, and policy experts to discuss both the legal framework and the practical steps individuals can take to gamble responsibly. They will also cover where to seek help if betting becomes a problem, including state-funded support services.

Registration is required in advance through the NYSBA website. The association says the program is part of its broader public service mission to address emerging legal and social issues affecting New Yorkers.
