5 greatest wide receivers in Steelers history

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a rich history of dominant wide receivers, from the Steel Curtain era to the modern passing game. While the franchise is known for its defense and running backs, a handful of pass-catchers have defined the position in black and gold. Here are the five greatest.

Lynn Swann tops the list for his clutch performances in the 1970s. He was the MVP of Super Bowl X, making acrobatic catches that became NFL lore. His four Super Bowl rings and Hall of Fame induction cement his legacy, even if his regular-season stats were modest by today's standards.

John Stallworth is right there with Swann. He was the deep threat who stretched defenses, leading the team in receiving yards for years. Stallworth caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XIV and retired as the franchise's all-time leader in yards and touchdowns. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002.

Hines Ward redefined the position with his physical blocking and fearless play over the middle. He won Super Bowl XL MVP and retired as the team's all-time leader in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Ward's toughness and leadership made him a fan favorite and a future Hall of Famer.

Antonio Brown had the most statistically dominant run of any Steelers receiver. From 2013 to 2018, he led the NFL in receptions and yards, earning four All-Pro selections. His route running was unmatched, and he set franchise records for single-season catches and yards. Off-field issues tarnished his legacy, but his on-field peak was historic.

Rounding out the top five is Santonio Holmes. His time in Pittsburgh was short, but his impact was huge. He caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII, making a toe-tap catch in the corner of the end zone that is one of the greatest plays in NFL history. That single moment, along with his consistent play, earns him a spot.
