A powerful storm swept through the Columbus area on Saturday, forcing an abrupt suspension of third-round play at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. The severe weather hit Muirfield Village Golf Club with little warning, bringing high winds and heavy rain that disrupted the PGA Tour event.
About 30 minutes after officials halted play, the storm's intensity caused a television broadcast tower to collapse near the 10th green. The structure came down in a gust of wind, landing in a spectator area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Emergency crews and tournament staff quickly secured the area, checking for any potential hazards.
Players and spectators had already been directed to seek shelter when the tower fell. The decision to suspend play came as radar showed a line of strong storms moving directly over the course. The Memorial Tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus, is one of the premier events on the PGA Tour schedule, and the delay disrupted what had been a competitive third round.
Officials said they would monitor the weather and assess damage before deciding when to resume play. The fallen tower added to the chaos, but the quick response and lack of injuries were seen as a relief for everyone on site. The storm marked a dramatic interruption to an otherwise calm tournament weekend.
