Khabib Nurmagomedov credits Dana White’s ‘cold-blooded’ UFC approach

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has given Dana White a large share of the credit for the promotion's global dominance, calling the UFC boss "cold-blooded" in the best possible way. Speaking in a recent interview, Nurmagomedov said White's willingness to make tough business decisions without sentimentality is exactly what separates the UFC from other combat sports organizations.

"Dana is not there to make friends. He is there to make the best fights and the biggest shows," Nurmagomedov said. "Sometimes fighters get upset, sometimes fans complain, but he does what is needed. That is why the UFC is number one."

The undefeated Dagestani fighter, who retired in 2020 with a perfect 29-0 record, pointed to White's handling of contract disputes, matchmaking, and fighter releases as proof of his no-nonsense approach. Nurmagomedov noted that many promotions fail because they let personal relationships or public pressure influence their decisions. White, he argued, treats the UFC like a business first and a sport second, which keeps the product sharp.

"You see other leagues, they hesitate. They worry about what people will say. Dana does not," Nurmagomedov added. "He cuts fighters when they are not performing. He makes fights that are risky. He pushes everyone. That cold-blooded style is why the UFC has no real rival."

Nurmagomedov also praised White's loyalty to fighters who respect the organization, saying the boss rewards those who show up and do their job. He recalled his own dealings with White, noting that while they had disagreements over the years, the respect was always mutual.

"I am not saying he is easy to work with. He is not. But he is fair in his own way," Nurmagomedov said. "If you bring value, he takes care of you. If you bring problems, you are gone. That is simple, and it works."

The comments come as the UFC continues to expand into new markets and sign top talent from around the world. Nurmagomedov, who now coaches and promotes events in his native region, said he studies White's methods closely. He believes the UFC's success is not accidental, but the result of a leader who is willing to make unpopular calls for the long-term health of the brand.

"People think it is about the fighters or the fans. It is both, but someone has to run it like a machine," he said. "Dana is that machine. Love him or hate him, you cannot argue with the results."
