Houston Releases Defensive Starter After Just Three Games
September 25, 2025 - 18:47
In a surprising turn of events, the Houston Texans have released defensive starter C.J. Gardner-Johnson just three games into the season. Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed that the decision to part ways with the player was his own, emphasizing that it was a tough choice but one he felt was necessary for the team's future.
Gardner-Johnson, who was acquired in a trade prior to the season, was expected to bolster the Texans' defense. However, after a short stint, his performance did not align with the team's expectations. Ryans expressed his commitment to building a competitive roster and indicated that the decision was made with the long-term vision of the franchise in mind.
The Texans are now looking to regroup and fill the gap left by Gardner-Johnson's departure. Fans and analysts alike are left speculating on the implications of this move and what it means for the team's defensive strategy moving forward.
