Decline in Online Abuse During March Madness: NCAA Reports Positive Findings
June 10, 2025 - 20:24
The NCAA has announced a significant reduction in online abuse related to sports betting during this year's March Madness tournament. In an effort to monitor the safety of athletes, coaches, game officials, and selection committee members, the NCAA enlisted the help of Signify Group to track messages directed at these individuals throughout the event.
The findings indicate that the level of abusive online interactions has decreased compared to previous years, suggesting a positive shift in the online environment surrounding college basketball. This decline is particularly noteworthy given the increasing popularity of sports betting and its potential to create a hostile atmosphere for those involved in the tournament.
The NCAA's proactive approach to safeguarding participants reflects a growing awareness of the impact of online harassment in sports. By taking steps to monitor and address these issues, the organization aims to foster a more respectful and supportive community for all individuals involved in college athletics.
